Teaching Diverse Students

Initial Submission

I worked on both activities as a single unit for my submission since the sample classroom data was identical. I tried to effectively apply the data provided on the activity to decide what learning approaches would help benefit the students overall. For this assignment, I created a brief infographic that summarizes a more detailed presentation. I started making an infographic, but I needed more space for my research and wasn't happy with the overall appearance. So I went with a dual piece for the submission.

Given the description of the activity, I also included differentiation for three students individually. This took more thinking as there wasn't specific data available. I also added a document answering the question set according to the experience in my school setting.

 

Process

I started by breaking down the data in the sample class and adding a notation to the areas where I could see trends to find impacts. Next, I compared this to the full list available on the Hattie Influence list, reducing that list to the impacts that fit my data. Finally, I used those results to reduce it to more workable information that was more direct. This brought me down to 10 areas of influence to work with. 

This helped guide the three approaches that I worked on for addressing Activity 2.

I then applied these concepts to three specific students, creating a goal with a method for measuring the progress in achievement for each student. This additional breakdown would benefit from more direct data on the student, but an overall approach can give foundations for progress.

I also included a document addressing the activity questions from my own school perspective as a final piece.

Finally, Alex and myself were tasked with having a recorded discussion on our case studies.
